Board of Trustees
Members of the Board
The mission of the ISC's Board of Trustees is to provide advice and oversight on all matters related to the school. These include but are not limited to budgetary decisions, financial planning, strategic planning, fundraising, special events, faculty and staff compensation, and capital projects.
Board of Trustees, 2023-2024
- Sara Belkowitz, Member-at-large
Sara Belkowitz has extensive work experience in marketing and communications. Sara is currently the Director of Marketing at Tiger Fuel Company, a role she started in December 2022. Sara is a parent of an ISC alumni and a current Spanish Preschooler. - Nick Cady, Member-at-large
Nick has been an ISC parent since 2016 and a language nerd since well before that. He believes every child should learn a foreign language, and the ISC is a wonderful place to do so. A graduate of UVA and twenty-year resident of Charlottesville, he works in biotech sales. - Cagle Juhan, Member-at-large
Cagle is an Assistant United States Attorney for the Justice Department. He has two children that currently attend the ISC in the French program. - Thad Glowacki, Chair
A graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia School of Law, Thad is a former partner at Edgehill Endowment Partners which invests on behalf of endowments and foundations. At Edgehill he was responsible for stewarding the assets of four mission-driven non-profit institutions, including two colleges. Over the past decade, Thad has advised over 35 different Investment Committees and Boards on their investment programs for endowed assets totaling more than $4 billion. Thad also practiced corporate law in New York City for several years after starting his career as an investment banker. Thad's three children are all alumni of the ISC. - Cliff Stains, Parent Representative
Cliff is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at UVA. His son has attended the ISC in our French program since 2019 and is currently in the 2nd grade. - Evan Kwiatkowski, Vice Chair
Evan is a CPA and Senior Vice President with Silvercrest Asset Management Group in Charlottesville. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Evan has two children in the Spanish programs at ISC. - Joy Miller, Secretary
Joy has been part of the ISC community for the past 6 years as a mom of 2; her daughter is an alumnus, and her son is in the Spanish JK program. Joy is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner on the Pediatric Palliative Care team at UVA Children’s. She moved to Charlottesville 14 years ago with her husband Brad to pursue a career in pediatric nursing. She completed a master's program at UVA's School of Nursing and has been practicing as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for the past 10 years. Being part of the ISC community has been an incredibly uplifting experience for her children and family and she is honored to serve in this capacity. - Taylor Odom, Member-at-large
Taylor Odom is an attorney based in Charlottesville. Taylor was born and raised in Louisiana where he began to study French. He received his undergraduate degree from Tulane University and law degree from Loyola University New Orleans. Before attending law school, Taylor spent a year in Metz, France, teaching English through the Teaching Assistants Program in France (TAPIF). While in France, Taylor developed a strong appreciation for the French language and culture which has brought him back to Europe and other francophone countries over the years. Taylor met his wife, who is a Virginia native, while in law school. Taylor relocated to Charlottesville with his wife in 2013 and has been involved with the Alliance Française since becoming a Virginian. - Emmie Wright, Member-at-large
Emmie Wright is an alumni parent, with both of her children having graduated the program. Emmie’s background is in bilingual education, and she taught high school Spanish for 15 years in independent schools in Charleston, SC, New York City, and at St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville. She has recently started teaching again at Peabody School. Emmie speaks only Spanish with her two children at home, and believes strongly in the importance of bilingualism and language immersion from an early age. She loves the International School's community and mission, and is excited to serve.

Veronica is an alumni parent and is a Research Assistant Professor in the School of Education & Human Development at UVA.
Committees of the Board
Committees are open to the community - we welcome volunteers for committee work even if you are not a voting member of the school's Board of Trustees. Please contact the Board Chair or Head of School if you would like to become involved with any of the committees listed below.
- Governance
The goal of this committee is to actively recruit and acquire new board members. In addition, this committee reviews the Board’s by-laws periodically and modifies when necessary. - Finance
The Finance Committee works to ensure the proper, legal, efficient, and transparent financial management of the school. In 2014-15, the committee focused its efforts on evaluating and solidifying the current financial health of the school, and preparing a realistic and sound financial plan for moving the school into a building of our own. - Fundraising
The Fundraising Committee raises awareness and philanthropic support of the school's key priorities in order to further enhance the ISC's founding mission and vision. Members of the fundraising committee are expected to assist with soliciting gifts, identify and cultivate potential donors, make a personal contribution to the school, and help build the ISC's unique identify in the community. - Building
The Building Committee has one principle responsibility: 1. Assisting with the maintenance and upgrade of school grounds.
Our Founders
- Sibylle Rotach-Hunt, Founder and Former Director
Sibylle, founder and former director of The International School of Charlottesville, earned a B.A. and middle school teaching degree from the University of Berne, Switzerland, in 1983, and a M.Ed. In bilingual/multicultural education from George Mason University in 1996. She has over 20 years of teaching experience ranging from preschool children to adults in various discipline, including French immersion programs and elementary school. She was a teacher and the director of The International School of Charlottesville from 1998 until 2006. - Maite Brandt-Pearce, Founder, former Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Ex-Officio Member of the Board
Maite Brandt-Pearce co-founded the ISC with Sibylle Rotach-Hunt in 1998. Having attended a partial language immersion school herself (colegio Franco-Peruano in Lima, Peru), she is fluent in French and has some familiarity with Spanish. She had served on the Board of Trustees of the ISC as Treasurer from 1998-2005, Interim Chairman of the Board from 2002-2005, and member at large from 2005 to 2007. Maite is also an alumni parent (Aidan and Leila). She is a professor of electrical engineering at UVA specializing in fiber optic communications. She has earned a BSEE in 1985, an MEE in 1989, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1993, all from Rice University in Houston, TX. She has over 75 published papers, all in electrical engineering.
